We gather in worship to find meaning and live more deeply. Worship creates connections within, among, and beyond us, calling us to our better selves, calling us to live with wisdom and compassion.

Unitarian Universalist worship styles vary by the congregation, and even within a single congregation. Some congregations’ worship is contemporary and high tech. Some congregations’ worship is traditional and formal. Some feature exuberant while some include long periods of silent reflection.

We are a lay-lead congregation and, as such, our services vary in form and content. Service leaders are able to incorporate elements as and how they see fit to add their distinct flavor to our worship.

Elements of a typical Unitarian Universalist Sunday morning worship service include:

  • Words of welcome and congregational announcements.
  • Lighting of the congregational chalice, the symbol of our faith.
  • A multigenerational segment, such as a “story for all ages” which aligns with the theme of the service.
  • A time for sharing joys and concerns of the congregation.
  • An offering, collecting financial donations for the congregation or for justice work in the community.
  • Music, both instrumental and vocal and in a variety of styles.
  • A period of meditation or prayer.
  • Readings—ancient or contemporary—in support of the message of the service.
  • A message delivered by the leader of the service—a professional minister, guest speaker, or member of the congregation.
  • Closing remarks from the leader of the service and extinguishing of the chalice.

From time to time, worships incorporate holiday celebrations, multigenerational plays and pageants, longer musical performances, child dedications, and coming-of-age ceremonies. We offer learning programs for children and youth during the Sunday service.
