DESCRIPTION:The Celtic word “Samhain” means “summer’s end.”  This holiday is the beginning of Winter and the New Year\, the time of giving thanks for a good harvest\, and a time for letting go of what no longer serves us. It is also the time of year when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is said to be the thinnest\, and the dead are invited back for loving remembrance. In the course of this service\, we will observe all of these ancient traditions and reflect on their significance in our modern lives. Please bring a picture or other memento of a departed loved one to church to place on our Samhain altar.

DESCRIPTION:At the meeting house.  Since ancient times\, stories and song have been sacred pathways to Spiritual celebration\, communication\, insight\, wisdom and communion. Join us for this fun\, informal\, intergenerational program aimed at exploring the richness of human mythology\, the Spiritual potency of music and the fellowship of sharing these things as a means of becoming closer to Divine truth. \nWhat to expect: For all ages! We will share a sampling of selected mythology\, songs and stories as a framework for discussions and reflection. We will also engage various instruments\, guest musicians and free-form sound and movement activities. Each Monday evening session will have an element of structure\, and an element of ‘free exploration’ intended to welcome participants into the self-guided space of how music\, stories and movement can be an individual and group spiritual practice. Feel free to bring instruments\, your own favorite myths\, stories\, poems or oral traditions. From local Anishinaabe stories to ancient Polynesian Mythology to Irish Faerytales and much\, much more – we look forward to exploring these topics as an extension of UU’s core principles and beliefs.
