DESCRIPTION:Thank you to all that attended the Annual Meeting on May 19th. For those who were not there\, the following is an outline of what happened at the meeting. There were lengthy discussions on each item\, much deliberation on the budget\, and by that point there was no longer a quorum. Changes have been made to the proposed budget and another congregational meeting has been scheduled for Sunday\, June 16 – to vote on that\, the Bylaws amendments\, and new Trustees. Please read the Bylaws amendments in the meantime if you intend to be a voter and you have not read them yet. The current bylaws are inadequate in many areas\, and the MqtUU truly needs some of the Bylaws amendments to move forward with a consulting minister and to foster better relations between Trustees\, the staff\, and the congregation. DESCRIPTION:“With Care and Affection”\n\nMy mother trained to be a teacher at a time when married women usually didn’t work outside the home\, especially if they had children.  In addition to public school\, I benefited from a lot of home-schooling from an excellent teacher who had no other teaching outlet– plus\, she loved me.\n\nMy mother continues to inspire many of the things I care about today.  Sometimes she is with me in small but spiritual ways\, such as during the Women’s March.  Sometimes I have a sense of her when I read a book or hear music that I know she would love.\n\n“To mother” is “to bring up with care and affection.”\n\nLet us come together on May 12th and share some of those times when we are reminded of someone– no matter their gender or biological relationship to us– who nurtured us with their care and affection and thus nourished us spiritually.\n\nHope to see you May 12!\nKathy Campbell

DESCRIPTION:“Words\, Words\, Words.”  Unitarian Universalists often struggle with\, stumble over\, and even avoid certain religious words.  How do we\, or can we\, use common religious terms?  Rev. Mark Worth returns as our guest speaker on his two-Sunday visit. \nOur guest speaker on April 21 and April 28 is Rev. Mark Worth.  Mark graduated high school in Crystal Falls\, Class of ‘66\, and NMU Class of ‘70.  He was a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam War\, serving two years Alternate Service in a Massachusetts hospital.  A nearby Unitarian Universalist church ran a draft counseling center\, and Mark began attending to find out\, “Who are these people who care about peace?”  Mark attended Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago 1987-91\, and served as student minister to the Keweenaw UU Fellowship 1988-91\, commuting once a month from Chicago.  He has served UU churches in Ellsworth and Castine\, Maine\, and Westborough and Harvard\, Massachusetts.  He retired in 2017.

He will not be talking in any way about their crimes but wanted to alert folks who may be sensitive to issues related to sex offenders that he will include references to them in his talk.
