It is also the time of year when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is said to be the thinnest\, and the dead are invited back for loving remembrance. In the course of this service\, we will observe all of these ancient traditions and reflect on their significance in our modern lives. Please bring a picture or other memento of a departed loved one to church to place on our Samhain altar.

Find out how we can – individually and collectively – behave magnificently in defiance of all hurt and heartbreak around us.  The service will include the traditional UU Water Communion – our annual “welcome back” service brings us back together from a variety of travels. We bring a small sample of water to symbolize our journeys\, joining them together (it’s OK to just bring water and tell us what it symbolizes).

DESCRIPTION:Dan Young (He\, him\, his) is a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship\, Bay de Noc. He serves currently as the Member at Large to the Executive Board and is a member of the Advisory Board for MUUSJN—The Michigan UU Social Justice Network. Dan is married to Helen Sherman. All told\, they have three adult children and four Grandchildren. A former Methodist minister\, Dan studied at Central Michigan University\, and Boston University where he earned his Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling and Biblical Studies with Honors\, and his Doctorate in Hebrew Wisdom Literature. During that time\, he was awarded the Charles E. Jefferson Fellowship in Biblical Preaching. After leaving the ministry he worked in sales in the Finance and Insurance industries. Dan is an amateur astronomer\, and an award-winning photographer. He enjoys kayaking on Lake Michigan in the summer in the waters off his property on the Stonington Peninsula.
