DESCRIPTION:During what has come to be known as “The Burning Time” in Europe and America\, which included the Inquisition\, it’s estimated that as many as 9 million innocent women\, men and children were persecuted under the varying official definitions of “witchcraft.”  Of course\, this type of persecution is as antithetical to Unitarian Universalist beliefs as could possibly be imagined.  In these enlightened times\, no such horrors could possibly happen again – or could they?  This service will be a reminder that UUs must continue to stand against intolerance and hatred based on “differences” between people.

DESCRIPTION:Having the courage to admit that not only are we imperfect\, but we absolutely need each other\, is not only courageous but the only perfect\, self-sustaining thing to do.  \nPastor Joshua Berg graduated from seminary this May with a Master in Divinity degree and was ordained into the Unitarian Universalist ministry in July. At the beginning of the year\, he spent five months as the sabbatical minister at Emerson UU in Canoga Park and is currently doing a year-long residency as a chaplain at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Joshua is from Michigan and was the intern minister at Northwest in Southfield\, MI. He organized the Mi-Wide service during the pandemic.

DESCRIPTION:At the meeting house.  Since ancient times\, stories and song have been sacred pathways to Spiritual celebration\, communication\, insight\, wisdom and communion. Join us for this fun\, informal\, intergenerational program aimed at exploring the richness of human mythology\, the Spiritual potency of music and the fellowship of sharing these things as a means of becoming closer to Divine truth. \nWhat to expect: For all ages! We will share a sampling of selected mythology\, songs and stories as a framework for discussions and reflection. We will also engage various instruments\, guest musicians and free-form sound and movement activities. Each Monday evening session will have an element of structure\, and an element of ‘free exploration’ intended to welcome participants into the self-guided space of how music\, stories and movement can be an individual and group spiritual practice. Feel free to bring instruments\, your own favorite myths\, stories\, poems or oral traditions. From local Anishinaabe stories to ancient Polynesian Mythology to Irish Faerytales and much\, much more – we look forward to exploring these topics as an extension of UU’s core principles and beliefs.
