MUUSJN @ MqtUU

Members and Friends of the UU Marquette Congregation,

I am super excited to be coming up to visit with you this Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm!  I thought you might like to know a little more about me.

I am a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, and a lifelong Detroiter.  I currently teach art in after school programs in Detroit and consult for MUUSJN, as their Projects Coordinator.  I have many years of experience working with children, youth and families, included 8 years as Director of Religious Education at the Detroit and Farmington UU Churches.  I live with my life partner Eric and our dog, Muhammad Ali.  I am a visual artist and enjoy experimenting with many mediums.  I am also active in Showing Up for Racial Justice, The Peoples Water Board of Detroit, The Michigan Coalition Against Tar Sands (MiCats), The Detroit Light Brigade and was very active in Occupy Detroit in 2011.  Grounded in Unitarian Universalist values, I am very committed to working for social justice.

This is the first time I’ve traveled to the Upper Peninsula since I was a young child.  The Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network has just started an Environmental Task Force; a member of your congregation, Sarah Redmond shared concerns of mining in the U.P. on our first call last month.  Would you believe I didn’t know this mining was happening in my own state?  It reminded me what a large and unique state we live in, and that there were likely issues we are dealing with in Southeastern Michigan that you may not be aware of.  A visit was in order.  I’m looking forward to sharing that info, as well as more about MUUSJN and the issues/projects we are currently working on, and I’m especially interested to learn more about your congregation and what is important to you.  I am looking forward to building a supportive relationship, and hope you’ll join me on Wednesday to get started.

In Peace,
Jenny Teed

PS Also, I’m planning on ending my trip next Saturday in Mackinaw to join the Shut Down Line 5 Rally, I’d love to have some of you join me!
